BUOYANCY

Coach Lucido had my full attention the day he covered buoyancy. He explained that buoyancy is the upward force that makes things float. As fluid is pushed aside by an object, the fluid pushes back to try to reclaim the space from which it was so rudely evicted. All this pushing back makes the object float. That wasn’t the part that fascinated me, though. It was the naked guy part.

The Naked Guy Part

Apparently, the philosopher, scientist, and athlete Archimedes* suddenly understood buoyancy during bathtime. Coach only described Archimedes as a philosopher and scientist, but since Greeks liked to be well rounded, it was not such a stretch to assume that Archimedes was also an accomplished discus thrower or wrestler, and if I was going to picture a man in a bathtub, he was going to be ripped.
